So long summer! It’s been nice ... and 🥵 ... and filled with growth 🌱🤸🏽‍♀️🧘🏽‍♀️ . Thank you @bohemian.mom for your thoughtful creations 🙂
To cut or not to cut...🤷🏽‍♀️ . 🙋🏽‍♀️all things cultural with a heavy dose of open-ended spiritualism... and to many around the world hair is more than a visual side piece to be donned ... it holds meaning . All of that hair is out of the ordinary—a peculiar reminder that life will be unusual; growth will be constant and very long. Difficult to work through at times 😆 but worth the extra effort we’re asked to put into this life . For me, this kid’s hair is an extension of who she is. It tells her story from the very tip all the way to yesterday’s new growth, and it’s always been a symbolic form of growth in our lives from in utero to this day. Now it’s become this unruly distraction that screams, “okay, you’ve made it through... it’s okay to honor the journey and (literally) take the burden off your shoulders.” . Her big moments of growth are ALWAYS the linchpin that help me see the light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes you’re moving at roller-coaster speeds and other times the turtle pace is as equally frightening. Then she grows and I slowly but surely feel confident that we’re going to be okay (year four has brought a huge sigh of relief) . Being her parent has taught me that growth is the underpin supporting the wall of gratitude in a special-needs home. Growth is what we live and work so hard for. Huge bouts of “thank you, Jesus” moments happen every so often yet your knees have never left the ground since they were born . To cut off all that growth? All of that hair? It doesn’t sit right with me..... Eeeeeeven if it sometimes gets in the way of toileting 😆 just kidding ... kind of ☺️ she’ll grow into it 😉... #realtalk .
(rhythmic read) ... an ant 🐜(that I didn’t step on) was the original heroine in this piece ... she went on to save the world. What outcomes would result if we stopped squishing women between the tiny spaces underneath our boots? . steppers come in all shapes, sizes and creeds .
#mood lyrics... Love is an easy emotion to conjure instantly in #songwriting and will always be a go-to. But I’m lovin’ the emotional tone set by the lyrics in this instrumental by @katrahqueymusic | video credits: videvo
This little light. If you tilt your head just so you’ll see the fire in her heart. The will to thrive. From day two, day three, day four she swam with the ducks. Walked in their shoes then flew through a fog of uncertain outcomes. Landing on two feet, she proclaimed to the world “Measure me not by what I cannot do. Instead I will break the personal mold. Push past burdening boundaries. You will see me try. See me shape my life.” It’s in the trying where life is measured photo by @jaimehendrixphotography
Sometimes I feel I’ve met happiness only halfway. Reaching for what could be yet simultaneously holding onto a past so unresolved, so out of touch with reality that it grips at me, screaming, “I’m what matters!” . But matter that has lost its meaning has no tangible place in the present. Meeting happiness where you are at—living in the present—seems a true way. . The heaviness that clings with a former self. The envy of you in your mind’s fabled future. Choose the ‘you’ you know now and go from there. . Meet happiness where you are at .
new #songlyrics ... written for an upcoming project by @katrahqueymusic #beatmakers #newmusic #newmusicmonday 🎧
“Stop for a moment. Look how far you’ve come...” It felt ridiculously obvious when #celebrate was the power-word spoken. And we still don’t do enough of it . Someone who I respect and admire taught me to listen for words, themes, speaking to us in this lifetime. Words of power, of meaning . There we were, focusing on being human, a tremendous feat for some children and parents: working hard to breathe, walk, eat, talk, grow—running only on the fumes of angst —racing against the time clock of early childhood development. We focused on fears and very little on accomplishments . Once we tackled and kicked one fear to the curb we were immediately onto the next . So ... this weekend we’re contributing to the well-deserved cause of celebration: our first mother-daughter photoshoot! Fast fashion. Paid photographer. Clichéd matching tees packed with so much meaning even the integrity of handmade couldn’t compare. We’re going big and we’re going cheesy. Pulling out all the stops . Special needs boils down to a life focused on growth and accomplishment for us. I didn’t understand this two years ago; fear has that domineering quality of keeping the focus on survival—leaving room for the next fear only . When I forget to let my guard down and choose peace of mind in our accomplishments—our blessings—I give fear the opportunity to steer the present moment; giving anxiety a free ride also ... and a few other hitchhikers along the way 😉 . We’re stopping for a moment to see how far we’ve come . And then we are celebrating.
Cheers to the soundtrack of varied emotions playing in the background of our day-to-day lives . 🥳🤯😌🥰😳😁😱😎😜
Music as a hobby #thestruggleisreal 😌 . My tea is still seeping, now cold ... from 4 PM this evening and tonight, I will look no where near as fresh-faced in the home studio as I did when this picture was taken. . In the stillness I’m grateful. . In the chaos, balance begs on one shoulder and sacrifice whispers “give it up” on the other. Inwards, the creative heart always knows what’s best... .
