Cheers to the soundtrack of varied emotions playing in the background of our day-to-day lives . 🥳🤯😌🥰😳😁😱😎😜

Music as a hobby #thestruggleisreal 😌 . My tea is still seeping, now cold ... from 4 PM this evening and tonight, I will look no where near as fresh-faced in the home studio as I did when this picture was taken. . In the stillness I’m grateful. . In the chaos, balance begs on one shoulder and sacrifice whispers “give it up” on the other. Inwards, the creative heart always knows what’s best... .

“People don’t want perfection. They want honesty.” Society is paving a new social media mantra: “show us who you are behind every closed door.” Not your perfect selfies, perfect smiles, perfect families, perfect food . I think perfect looks damn good on you . For a long time, during Miss Trin’s first years of life, I couldn’t be on social media. I couldn’t watch your perfect lives, your busy, normal routines. I customized my Facebook feed so news and information came first. The worst was watching your children reach milestones. From my perspective, you were being perfectly honest about your life . Your lives made me cry tears of sadness. The guttural, uncontrollable kind . It took me a few years to be happy for you . It goes beyond jealousy or envy. It speaks of belonging . Not belonging can remain a thorn in your side if you let it fester; let it spread with turmoil . Pulling any source of pain out is difficult and it turns out I need your stories, your perfect smiles. I love to learn from you and your children—how her and I can incorporate some normalcy into our own life . Her and I are showing you the bare minimum of honesty—happy truths coupled with perfect smiles, laced with only a hint of suffering and sadness . I’m choosing to show what’s beautiful because life has improved for us—not the hardships in syringes and private clinic visits . We’re doing well. And it’s okay to show the well parts of you. Always.

I get nervous sharing my writing and thoughts on social media. There’s no greater mashup of love and hate than on the World Wide Web. . The many forms of love juxtapose the multitude of hate #peaceandlove ✌🏽

Do you believe there is such a thing as original thought or ideas? Mark Twain didn’t think so in his defense of Helen Keller: “...the substance, the bulk, the actual and valuable material of all human utterances is plagiarism.” . He argued that any new idea, sound, string of words, or thought you were inspired to create, is only an original way to express ideas that already existed long before that moment. Putting our collective consciousness to work, and putting less emphasis on individuality. . It was a struggle to write the lyrics and come up with a melody for this track by @katrahqueymusic . I didn’t want to melodically plagiarize inspiration coming from another vocalist, who herself used inspiration—beautifully—from Nina Simone, who herself was inspired in 1965 to cover the song, Feeling Good (#musical The Roar of the Greasepaint - The Smell of the Crowd) . “There’s no such thing as originality, just authenticity.” . Thwarting your natural instinct to mimic and copy other humans is tricky when you’re using inspiration from existing material 📝🎧

☀️ Sunlight. Sent these vocals off to @katrahqueymusic for his latest project. 🎧 🎞 . . Most life on earth depends on the sun. It’s no wonder we worshipped it. Only the micro-tiny among us would survive on our planet, indefinitely, without its warmth. And we humans would have to get mighty creative, as is our special trait, if we wanted to survive on earth’s remaining energy sources in unfathomably cold conditions. . Fossil fuels Plants Wind Happy moods Life Death Resurrection Can each thank the sun for our earth’s response to its heat waves. . Our lucky star the ☀️ was inspiration for the lyrics, as well as the 1965 song ‘Feeling Good’ covered by Nina Simone, et al. . Always in awe of those who see a problem and tackle it with #love ... or tech ... or policy ... or plants 🙌🏽🌎

Minding our habits... listening to her favorite song...again 🙉🤪 • We are both experiencing a rapid form of development. Around food, words, jumping, falling, etc. We’re quickly creating or crushing daily habits and it’s been a whirlwind of surprising outcomes. • She always reminds me that my habitual parenting needs an update. I’ve learned that my habits can limit her potential, and jogging myself out of the daily rut is important if I want to take advantage of that rapidly developing brain of hers. • I cannot stress enough just how capable typical children are and how our parenting habits, coupled with society’s cultural presets, determine our children’s habits; in turn, we build limitations on both ourselves and our children. From any school, to any lesson plan; any food store, regular driving route, or ANY neighborhood you find yourself living in, it’s setting limits and creating boundaries of perspective, growth, and most importantly, potential. • Exposure to new experiences, new ways to strengthen your fingers, how to properly use your core muscles, different play styles to ensure synaptic connections and speech formation. Early stage learning is what my child needs help with at the rudimentary level, so we can reach our potential and participate in society at an average level. And growth becomes double-time work for the atypical parent that tries to parent as you wanted BEFORE you knew special was going to happen! All while maintaining your sanity, self care, personal convictions, or personal space from healthcare providers who care equally about Trinity’s growth🧘🏽‍♀️ • Because we’re playing the constant game of catch-up, she cannot stay in one state of development for too long. If she isn’t given opportunities to make certain rudimentary connections with her brain and body, she’s in danger of never making those connections. Watching her create and crush habits has been a mind-blowing realization of how rapidly children can conquer life. I’m grateful to the array of therapists we really heavily on. They consistently remind parents that we’re an equal part of the process—at times an equal part of the problem 😆 Growth accelerates at home, if we let it.
